SUFFOLK COUNTY, NY, December 6, 2018 — Suffolk County Community College (SCCC), on Long Island, received from Cenergistic today the Environmental Excellence Award for its outstanding savings over four years of its Sustainability partnership with Cenergistic, national sustainability company. Suffolk has been a leader in sustainability and also received other awards and recognition for its previous and ongoing initiatives and efforts.
SCCC has achieved a 14.1% costs savings totaling $2.98M savings since partnering with Cenergistic. This represents a 133,094,229 kBtu savings and is the equivalent of removing 1,674 cars from the road or 206,046 tree seedlings grown for 10 years.
“Reaching this level of savings is a significant achievement. Suffolk County Community College has done an excellent job of implementing Cenergistic’s organizational behavior-based approach to energy conservation and sustainability, as well as maintaining productive efforts at all levels of the organization. The administration and all staff members are to be commended for clearly fulfilling their commitment to being good stewards of the organization’s energy dollars and the environment,” said Dr. William S. Spears, Chairman and Founder of Cenergistic. “I am extremely pleased to present Suffolk County Community College with our Environmental Excellence Award.”
SCCC personnel have worked closely with the full-time, onsite energy specialists, engineers, and M&V Experts to audit and optimize each energy system throughout the college. The energy specialist tracks usage — including electricity, water, sewer, natural gas and fuel oil.
A primary benefit of the Cenergistic program is that all costs come out of the existing utility budget, with savings projected to more than pay for the program. Additional savings can be redirected to other parts of the budget. The conservation program also delivers an environmental benefit from a reduced carbon footprint. Cenergistic’s three main goals are always comfort, cost savings and developing a culture of sustainability among faculty, staff, students and administration, through its energy-saving initiatives.
