Create Healthier Buildings

Delivering healthier buildings has never been more critical. We work with you to optimize comfort, health, and safety which protects the buildings themselves — not just the occupants.
CREATE HEALTHIER BUILDINGS

Now is the time to evaluate and optimize your buildings.

Improved Air Quality
The need for proper ventilation to support building occupant health and safety isn’t new, but COVID-19 added urgency and more public scrutiny.
Funding Available Now
Because indoor air quality is fundamental to the health of your student population, the government is providing funds for everything from inspection and testing to repair, replacement and upgrades to existing systems via the American Rescue Plan.
Offset Rising Costs from Learning Loss
Historically, most schools are setback during peak summer months. With many districts offering more summer sessions or returning to classes earlier, rising utility and maintenance costs need to be offset. Budgets are already tight, so finding opportunities for optimization will be crucial.

CREATE HEALTHIER BUILDINGS

Sustainable success starts at the foundation.

Too many districts around the country invest in new ventilation equipment, new air filtration, and unproven virus deactivating technology without first taking the necessary foundational steps. The U.S. Government Accountability Office reported that about 36,000 schools nationwide had HVAC systems in need of repair or basic maintenance. Without proper groundwork, these investments won’t pay off but will result in more work — and added costs — long-term.

This is where our Healthy Buildings Pyramid comes into play. It’s our foundational approach to helping you maintain healthier buildings and comply with CDC recommendations without the expense of unproven technology.

Step 1: Building Ventilation Survey

Verify design ventilation and provide support to correct issues.

Step 2: MERV 13 Filtration Survey

Survey all air-handling systems for MERV 13 filter upgrade. Recommend upgrades and propose solutions for incompatible systems.

Step 3: Increased Ventilation

Assess increased ventilation possibilities in common high occupancy areas. Present possible solutions.

Step 4: Develop Natural Ventilation

Assess natural ventilation possibilities. Provide an operational protocol, if applicable.

Step 5: Local Filtration Devices

Make sure the devices are U.L. listed for the application and are sized to handle the classroom and have a plan for on-going maintenance.

Step 6: New Technology

Determine whether proposed new equipment is U.L. listed for client’s application, and whether tests were conducted on full assembly in the intended application, not just a component.

COVID-19 Leadership

Cenergistic engineers and experts help clients follow CDC guidelines with resources and personnel:
  • White Papers
  • Engineering Support
  • Onsite Inspection and Training
Important COVID-19 related topics, including:
  • Setback safety for building closures
  • Moisture management during setback
  • Startup safety for returning to occupied conditions
When calculating savings, we compare to a “normal operations” base year (excludes 2020 COVID months) and we don’t take undue credit for energy savings due to government-mandated school shutdowns. COVID-19 is a highly unusual event. Commercial facilities reported an average 22% drop in energy use during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic. But with Cenergistic GreenX®, onsite Energy Specialists and Engineering support, the average Cenergistic client exceeded a 40% reduction over the same time — nearly doubling the national average!
