SOUTH BEND, Ind. — Less than one year into their partnership with Cenergistic, a national energy conservation company, the South Bend Community School Corporation has recovered more than $175,000 in planned utility expenses.
“The effectiveness of our partnership with Cenergistic has exceeded my expectations,” said Superintendent Dr. C. Todd Cummings. “The conservation of both energy and funds is vital to the success of our district, and to see such substantial savings truly speaks to the effectiveness of the partnership between Cenergistic and our facilities teams.”
The partnership, which began in July of 2019, has already delivered promising results. Despite the program operating in its earliest stage, 6.2 percent of its expected costs were avoided, which helped SBCSC navigate utility rate increases for electricity and water services.
To find ways to save money, district personnel work with Cenergistic engineers, experts, and Energy Specialists to audit and optimize energy-using systems across the district to achieve peak efficiency. Energy Specialists track energy consumption at all campuses to identify waste and drive conservation.
A primary benefit of the Cenergistic program is that all costs come out of the existing utility budget, with savings projected to exceed the cost of the program. Additional savings can then be redirected to other budgetary needs. The environmental benefits of the program contribute to a reduced carbon footprint that may help the district qualify for ENERGY STAR® certification with the Environmental Protection Agency.
