PINELLAS COUNTY, FL, January 31, 2019 — Pinellas County Schools (PCS), located on the southwest coast of Florida, has received 92 ENERGY STAR® building certifications within their district for the year 2018, an esteemed certification with the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). This achievement makes them the highest ranked district in the State of Florida for 2018 and designates them among the top 25% of energy-efficient buildings nationwide.
PCS partnered with Cenergistic, national leading energy conservation and sustainability company, to implement their energy conservation program in 2015 with three primary program goals: to improve and maintain building comfort, to save money through a reduction in energy consumption and use those found resources toward raising teacher salaries and funding student programs, and to change the district’s culture to become a national sustainability leader. Cenergistic also facilitates the process of districts achieving, applying for and being awarded ENERGY STAR® certifications.
“Achieving this level ENERGY STAR® building certifications is a hugely significant milestone. Pinellas County Schools has done a wonderful job of implementing Cenergistic’s conservation and sustainability program, as well as maintaining productive efforts at all levels of the organization. The administration and all staff members are to be commended for clearly fulfilling their commitment to being good stewards of the environment,” said Dr. William S. Spears, Chairman and Founder of Cenergistic.
ENERGY STAR® is the most trusted, government-backed voluntary certification program in the U.S. for energy efficiency. Its high standards require efficient performance, ensuring a quality, environmentally friendly building. It helps organizations save money and reduce greenhouse gas emissions by identifying factories, office equipment, home appliances and electronics that have superior energy efficiency.
In addition to setting a record in the State of Florida with its 92 ENERGY STAR® certifications, PCS has set a goal to become a national sustainability leader and achieve excellence in energy conservation, instilling a culture of sustainability among the entire district. To add to that, PCS received this past Tuesday, January 29, the Environmental Excellence Award from Cenergistic for its outstanding achievement in energy and cost savings since parterning with Cenergistic. They have seen an overall 17.1% reduction in energy consumption, with a total of $20.5M in cost savings. Pinellas has been an incredible leader in their community and their recognition with ENERGY STAR® is an additional testament to their commitment and dedication to our environment.
