NEW CASTLE, IN, December 10, 2018 — New Castle Community Schools (NCCS), in east-central Indiana, received from Cenergistic today the Chairman’s Sustainability Award for its outstanding cost savings within Cenergistic’s Energy Conservation Program, having reached more than $7M in utility and energy savings.
The Chairman’s Sustainability Award is given to clients who have reached a significant savings milestone and celebrates a solid, sustainable conservation program with the support and cooperation of administration, faculty and staff. New Castle Community Schools has achieved a 46% costs savings, totaling over $7M, since partnering with Cenergistic in September 2010, the energy reduction impact of 396,125,315 kBtu, and equivalent of removing 9,947 cars from the road for one year or 1,224,255 tree seedlings planted and grown for 10 years.
“New Castle Community Schools has done an excellent job of implementing Cenergistic’s sustainability and energy conservation program with strong effort from the entire organization. The administration and all staff members are to be commended for clearly fulfilling their commitment to being good stewards of the organization’s energy dollars and the environment,†said Dr. William S. Spears, Chairman and Founder of Cenergistic. “Reaching this level of savings is a significant achievement and I am extremely pleased to present New Castle Community Schools with our Chairman’s Sustainability Award.â€
The goal in partnering with Cenergistic in 2010 was to minimize energy consumption and related costs in order to maximize funds available for use in the classroom. In addition to achieving these two goals, the program has helped maintain building comfort & safety, eliminate energy waste by changing energy-use patterns and habits, and created a culture of sustainability among all faculty and students. NCCS personnel have worked closely with Energy Coach Dave Pryor, to audit and optimize each energy-using system throughout the district to peak efficiency and track all energy consumption using the latest in energy-accounting software and technology to calculate savings and identify and correct areas that need immediate attention.
The success of the program is a result of a team effort including the Board and Superintendent for initiating and supporting program, principals for leading school efforts, teachers for reducing energy waste in classrooms, custodians for awareness in operating buildings and maintenance staff for ensuring well maintained, efficient building systems.
