PORT CHARLOTTE, Fla. — As the fall semester begins, Charlotte County Public Schools (CCPS) welcomes students back to classrooms through a coordinated effort with Cenergistic, a nationwide sustainability company, to ensure schools are safe for reopening.

Since the partnership began in 2019, CCPS personnel have worked closely with Cenergistic experts and the Energy Specialist to audit and optimize energy-using systems across the organization to achieve peak efficiency and deliver healthy buildings. The Energy Specialist tracks energy consumption at all campuses with leading state-of-the-art technology to identify waste and drive conservation.

“Cenergistic continues to do what they do best, save energy every way possible,” said Billy Williams, CCPS Maintenance and Operations Director. “We are on a journey that none of us have been on, and Cenergistic has been there with us every step when needed.”

During the COVID-19 shutdown, the program’s Energy Specialist works with the CCPS Operations department and building supervisors to ensure equipment continues to run efficiently. A combination of remote and in-building audits are used to implement measures that manage humidity and prepare equipment for eventual re-opening. Throughout the process, Cenergistic experts and district personnel have exchanged best practices for running facilities according to changing CDC and industry guidelines.

“The information and support provided by Cenergistic has been instrumental in helping us make informed decisions regarding the safe, efficient operations of our facilities,” said Jerry Olivo, Assistant Superintendent of District Support Services at CCPS. “The success of this program goes well beyond energy conservation.”
