At Modesto City Schools (MCS), sustainability is more than a responsibility—it’s a movement led by students and amplified by strategic partnerships. This innovative initiative empowers high school juniors and seniors with paid internships to tackle real-world environmental challenges, from reducing electricity use to developing clean transportation strategies. In partnership with Cenergistic, MCS has saved more than $3.8 million in energy costs between July 2020 and September 2024. By leveraging advanced energy-monitoring software and conducting in-person audits, the district has reduced utility waste and created a culture of conservation.

MCS is setting a new standard for environmental stewardship by:
✔️Installing six Sustainable Outdoor Learning Environments (SOLES).
✔️Adding solar carports that offset up to 85% of site energy usage.
✔️Equipping every school with air monitoring systems.

The combined efforts of CAPS and Cenergistic not only deliver substantial energy savings but also foster a pipeline of future environmental leaders equipped to address global sustainability challenges.
