Cenergistic Simulate® whole building simulation software utilizes the methods of whole building simulation that were defined in this patent. Cenergistic Simulate® creates a virtual building, including all HVAC systems, lighting systems, building occupants, office equipment and the building envelope. The model is then processed with local weather data, occupancy schedules and HVAC schedules. This allows the user to estimate changes in expected energy use based on factors including a building’s intended changes, historical consumption patterns and weather data. This patented process analyzes predicted energy use against an expected baseline to reliably determine potential savings for adjusting schedules, setpoints, adding equipment, windows, re-roofing, efficiency upgrades or other retrofits. Cenergistic received a second patent in 2019 for adding the ability to validate simulations against actual data. This further refined the accuracy of Cenergistic Simulate®.
This patent was for interval data analysis of smart electric meter data. The methods included in this patent have become the foundation for the way Cenergistic GreenX® understands how your buildings are being operated day-over-day, month-over-month, and year-over-year. Cenergistic GreenX® uses that knowledge to alert users about potential energy waste when buildings are not operating efficiently.
