(MONTGOMERY, Ala., Feb. 11, 2020) — In a press conference last week, the City of Montgomery announced its partnership with Cenergistic, a national energy conservation company, has led to four city buildings earning ENERGY STAR® certification. The program has also led to a $2.9 million in savings since the program’s start in 2016.
To earn ENERGY STAR designation from the Department of Energy, the four city buildings, including City Hall, operated at levels sustainable enough to place them among the top 25 percent of their nationwide peers. ENERGY STAR certification bolsters the energy program’s success through third-party validation.
“We want to thank everyone involved in our success,” said Mayor Reed. “We want to make sure that we remain good stewards of our environment.”
City personnel work closely with Cenergistic engineers, experts and Energy Specialists to audit and optimize energy-using systems across the organization to achieve peak efficiency. The Energy Specialists track energy consumption at all campuses through state-of-the-art smart technology to identify and correct areas that need immediate attention.
The reduced consumption across all facilities is equivalent to taking 1,644 cars off the road for a year or planting 202,294 new tree seedlings.
“We are grateful for our partnership with Cenergistic, for their part in our award,” said Mayor Steven Reed. “We’re going to seek to increase our savings over the coming years.”
