FORT WORTH, Tex. — Fort Worth Independent School District announces its partnership with Cenergistic, a national energy conservation company, has reduced the energy footprint of FWISD by 21 percent from the program’s start. These savings have arisen despite FWISD adding an additional 2.5 million square feet of conditioned space over that timeline. FWISD’s focus on energy conservation and the success of the energy program combined to reduce district annual electricity cost from $20 million in 2010 to less than $14 million in 2019.

The impact of Cenergistic’s energy program has accumulated impressive national recognition. A total of 116 FWISD schools and facilities have earned the Environmental Protection Agency’s ENERGY STAR® certification — the most of any district in the state of Texas. Only schools performing at superior energy efficiency levels are eligible to receive ENERGY STAR® designation. To further the impact of this success, FWISD has committed to complying with the standards of the Better Buildings Challenge, a movement sponsored by the Department of Energy to advance energy conservation across industries.

“Through the efforts of our partnership, we’ve been able to drop our usage of energy to more sustainable levels,” said Dr. Kent Scribner, FWISD Superintendent. “The value of this program has extended beyond dollar savings. As we try to become a leading District of Innovation, the success of this program has shown we can likewise become a leading district of innovative energy conservation.”
