10 Caroline County Public School Buildings Awarded ENERGY STAR® Certification

At their March Board of Education meeting, it was announced that 10 Caroline County Public Schools buildings have earned the EPA’s ENERGY STAR® Certification. This recognition is presented to the most energy efficient buildings in the country. Buildings are compared by size, use, and age then ranked to other buildings throughout the nation which have a similar use, size and age. Buildings are given a 1 – 100 ENERGY STAR score based on their actual, measured energy use.

“We are extremely pleased to receive this recognition from ENERGY STAR,” said Caroline County Public Schools’ Energy Manager, Joshua Rein. “It’s proof we’re operating, more energy efficient buildings for our students and community.”

It was also noted that their conservation success is also helping preserve the environment. According to the EPA, we have reduced CO2 emissions equal to 6,703,049 miles not driven by the average vehicle or 44,652 tree seedlings grown for 10 years.

“The conservation initiative is good for our organization and community,” Superintendent Derek Simmons said. “We’ve asked everyone to do their part — and it’s working! Our staff have been exceptionally cooperative in these efforts.”

Dr. Simmons thanked staff for their part in this and added a special thank you to Energy Specialist Josh Rein for his outstanding work in implementing the conservation program.

• Central Office (Annex)
• Colonel Richardson Middle/High School Campus
• Federalsburg Elementary School
• Greensboro Elementary School
• Lockerman Middle School
• North Caroline High School
• Preston Elementary School
• Ridgely Elementary School
