Former Superintendent (retired)

Edgar B. Hatrick III served as superintendent in Loudoun County from 1991 to 2014. His entire career in education, which began in 1967, has been spent with Loudoun County Public Schools (LCPS).

He served as president of the Virginia Association of School Superintendents and the Washington Area Superintendents' Study Council.

He has been a guest lecturer at University of Virginia, George Mason University, Shenandoah University and Marymount University. He received his doctorate and master's degrees in education from Virginia Tech and his bachelor's degree in English from the University of Richmond.

Dr. Hatrick is a 1963 graduate of Loudoun County High School. He has been a member of the American Association of School Administrators (AASA) for 23 years and has served on the AASA Executive Committee and the AASA Governing Board as well as serving as its president for the 2010-2011 school year.

Loudoun County Public Schools (LCPS), the fourth largest school district in the Commonwealth of Virginia, serves more than 60,000 students across 10 high schools, 13 middle schools, 51 elementary schools, a technology center, and an alternative education school, representing over 9.1 million square feet.

LCPS received ENERGY STAR recognition for showing continued dedication to improving its energy efficiency while educating students about the importance of being good environmental stewards.

Key achievements include:

  • Earning ENERGY Star Partner of the Year – Sustained Excellence Award in 2017, 2016, 2015, 2014, 2013 & 2012 and Partner of the Year in 2010 & 2011.
  • Earning ENERGY STAR Leaders recognition in January 2010 for improving its portfolio-wide energy efficiency by 10 percent.
  • Virginia School Board Association Certified Green Schools 2011, First Place Winner (Student population 10,001 and up), Platinum Certification
